The Seven Deadly Sins tells the story of a once an active group of knights in the region of Britannia, who disbanded after they supposedly plotted to overthrow the Liones Kingdom. Their supposed defeat came at the hands of the Holy Knights, but rumors continued to persist that they were still alive. Ten years later, the Holy Knights staged a coup d'état and captured the king, becoming the new, tyrannical rulers of the kingdom. The third princess, Elizabeth, then starts out on a journey to find the Seven Deadly Sins and enlist their help in taking back the kingdom.
During her search, she soon found herself working as a waitress at the traveling Boar Hat bar, which was own to her surprise by Meliodas, The Dragon's Sin of Wrath and the captain of the Seven Deadly Sins. His wanted poster, which depicted him as a rugged but handsome man with a goatee, seems to be completely inaccurate, as he is revealed to be a young-looking blonde boy. Despite having the appearance of an adolescent, being only five feet tall, Meliodas is actually several thousand years old and incredibly powerful. His most distinctive trait is his Dragon symbol carved at the top of his arm, just below his shoulders. Despite being called the Sin of Wrath, Meliodas acts more like a mellow trickster who is often seen fondling Elizabeth one way or another. She doesn't seem to mind his perverted actions toward her and has even fallen in love with him due to a sense of familiarity and nostalgia with him. However, underneath his overall calm and playful facade he hides a great amount of anger, which he only lets out when his companions are endangered. Along with him and Elizabeth is Hawk, a talking pig.
Along the way, they managed to find more of the seven deadly sins. The first was that of Diane, The Serpent's Sin of Envy. She is a giant with immense physical power and a deep connection to the earth. She is confident, short-fused, and will do anything to protect innocent life. She is infatuated with the captain, Meliodas, and is often jealous of any women who show interest toward him. Although she eventually cares deeply for Elizabeth, Diane is envious of Meliodas' affection toward Elizabeth instead of her. The next sin was Ban, The Fox's Sin of Greed. Also known as the "undead" Ban, he is immortal. He's both violent and laid back, and seems to only have concern for Meliodas and the other sins above his own desires. Despite being the sin of "greed", he does have a deeply caring heart, and fears losing those he cares about. He also seems to be highly masochistic and is driven by a challenge. Next is King, The Grizzly's Sin of Sloth. His true name is Harlequin, the fairy king, and was once the protector of the fairy forest and fountain of eternal youth within. It is mentioned that he is probably the most powerful out of the Seven Deadly Sins. King is gentle, respectful, and empathetic. He is also "secretly" in love with fellow sin, Diane. The next sin was that of Gowther, The Goat's Sin of Lust. He is a doll who has little or no concept of typical social interaction and emotions, but he seems to try his best to learn and understand. He is observant, nonchalant, and extremely logical. He is known to state observed or obvious facts and information without tact or consideration of others' feelings.
While on their quest to find the other sins, Meliodas and the group find themselves facing off against Holy Knights who wish to stop them. One knight was Gilthunder, who once looked up to the Seven Deadly Sins and wanted to be just like them, but after thinking that the Sins murdered his father, Gilthunder wanted to have revenge and to surpass his father. Gilthunder was once a happy child, but after his father's death, he became an emotionless man who doesn't care about who he hurts.
Then one day, the Holy Knights managed to capture Elizabeth and return her to the castle, which cause Meliodas and the others to launch an attack on the capital to get her back. During the fight, the knights learned that there was another who was planning an attack: Arthur of Camelot with the help of the next sin to emerge: Merlin, The Boar's Sin of Gluttony. She is a mage who displays a mockingly playful and confident nature. Merlin is referred to as the greatest mage in all of Britannia. During their battles, many knights who wanted to kill the sins soon joined them when they learned that the story about them was a fake made up by the knights Hendrickson and Dreyfus. Gilthunder soon revealed that he only pretended to work for Hendricksen because he threatened and imprisoned his love Princess Margaret and was being watched by an invisible chimera. After Margaret was rescued and the chimera was killed by Meliodas, he revealed to Hendrickson that he knew all along that he and Dreyfus killed his father, cutting off the arm of Hendrickson in the process. Later Dreyfus confessed to the murder and the framing of the seven deadly sins, which later led to his death by Hendrickson.
After the truth came out, it was soon revealed why Hendrickson kidnapped Elizabeth. It was revealed that Elizabeth is one of the fragments of the Coffin of Eternal Darkness, which is used to revive the Demon Clan. It was revealed that she possesses blood of the Goddess Clan, which manifests in her right eye and allows her to heal grievous wounds on those around her, which saved the life of her sister Veronica who was thought to be dead after an explosion that was meant for Elizabeth, and her father the king, and allowed Meliodas and the rest of the Sins to recover enough strength to defeat Hendrickson, who was no longer human.
After the battle, peace was restored. The people begun to rebuild their lives and the sins were pardoned for their actions. Gilthunder made plans to leave to atone for the pain he caused while working for Hendrickson. After a good night of fireworks and drinking at the Boar Hat, the next day, Elizabeth learned that the sins were leaving for Camelot to aid Arthur, but before they left, Meliodas asked if she wanted to continue traveling with him, in which she accepted and jumped into his arms. As the sins left, Ban left the sins to do some traveling, but planned to return later. After the sins left, Gilthunder and knights Griamore and Hauser made a discovery in a book in Dreyfus’s room. A discovery that made them questioned everything that Dreyfus and Hendrickson were up to.
